A young filmmaker
spent $12,000 converting an old Chevy van into a modern mobile home and
now travels the country making movies.
Zach Both,
23, managed to convert a ten-year-old van into a mobile workspace that
he could use as a place to live, sleep and work, all while being on the
road.
Zach has been using the vehicle as both a home and mobile filmmaking studio.
Inside,
the van is tastefully decorated. He decided to use reclaimed wood on
the ceiling and walls, from a nineteenth-century church in Cleveland,
Ohio.
A futon bed allows him to rest at night and makes for an exceedingly comfortable workspace.
Even within the van, Zach has cleverly used curtains to create divisions that act like walls.
The windows at the rear have awnings on them that can be used as chalkboards so he can sketch out plots for films.
Zach
installed solar panels on the roof to power some of the appliances
including his fridge, the TV and computers along with his wifi network.
Of course, there's no running water in the van, so Zach says he showers at a gym whenever he needs to.
Zach tells Daily Mail Online that he left his job as an art director at a tech startup to pursue filmmaking full-time.
'The
filmmaking process is inherently nomadic, so living and working out of a
converted van was a natural fit,' he said. 'I started in Boston and
went straight west. Spent a couple weeks in the Grand Tetons and in a
small town in Montana.
'Then, during
winter I slowly made my way down the coast from Seattle to Los Angeles. I
typically don't travel for travel sake. I tend to follow where the work
or an interesting story is taking place.'
Fortunately,
Zach didn't have a house or mortgage of his own to pay off, just an
apartment that he needed to find another renter for.
